Barnes & Noble Intros Wi-Fi Only nook; Lowers Prices on 3G Model no comments
Barnes & Noble announced today that the current 3G version of the nook ereader has had its priced dropped to $199. Additionally, a new Wi-Fi only nook will be available for $149.
Except for the absence of 3G, the new nook Wi-Fi has the same features as the older 3G + Wi-Fi model. The Wi-Fi version comes with a white back panel instead of the 3G nook’s gray backside – you can purchase back panels in different colors to personalize your nook if you wish. The Wi-Fi nook also weighs about a half ounce less.
Owners of both nook ereader models get free Wi-Fi access at any AT&T hot spot in the US. AT&T has a map of its Wi-Fi hot spots you can check to see how useful this feature will be for you.
Support for the AT&T Wi-Fi locations is added with the new version 1.4 software which should be pushing out this week, or you can manually download the update. Other features of the new update include a new extra large font size and a go-to-page feature.
The Barnes & Noble website says that orders for the Wi-Fi nook will begin shipping this week, and shipping is free. The nook Wi-Fi should be available in “select” Barnes & Noble and Best Buy stores later this month.
