Kobo now accepts PayPal; new Kobo contest no comments
Kobo announced yesterday that it has started accepting PayPal. Using PayPal may be preferable if you don’t like to give your credit card info to every online merchant you shop with. This also opens up more payment options; you can use PayPal to pay from your bank account or use Amex or Discover cards (Kobo itself only accepts MasterCard or Visa). If you choose the PayPal option to pay for your Kobo purchase you will be redirected to your PayPal account to complete the transaction.
Kobo also has a new contest directed at fans of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series by George R.R. Martin. Through July 24, 2011 any ebook from the series purchased at Kobo enters you into a contest for a Kobo Touch Edition eReader. You can read the more about the contest at Kobo.

Every day at the Amazon Appstore for Androidthere is a free app. Today’s freebie is a game — Backbreaker Football (2 1/2 stars/70 reviews). A lot of the negative reviews for the game seem to result from it not being updated to work properly on the Tegra 2 chipset used in the Motorola Xoom and other newer tablets. If you have a different device you might want to try it, or get it now while it is free and hope for an update.

The Barnes & Noble Spotlight program this month features science fiction
author Iain M. Banks. His book Consider Phlebas is promotionally priced at $0.99. This ebook is also available for the same price at Koboand the Kindle Store, where it receives 3 1/2 stars by 139 reviewers.
The war raged across the galaxy. Billions had died, billions more were doomed. Moons, planets, the very stars themselves, faced destruction, cold-blooded, brutal, and worse, random. The Idirans fought for their Faith; the Culture for its moral right to exist. Principles were at stake. There could be no surrender.
Within the cosmic conflict, an individual crusade. Deep within a fabled labyrinth on a barren world, a Planet of the Dead proscribed to mortals, lay a fugitive Mind. Both the Culture and the Idirans sought it. It was the fate of Horza, the Changer, and his motley crew of unpredictable mercenaries, human and machine, actually to find it, and with it their own destruction.
