Ereader Sales & Free eBooks – 2/14/2010   no comments

Posted at 11:20 am in Random, eReaders & eBooks on Sale

So far I have not found any dramatic President’s Day sales on ereaders.  Newegg.com still has good deals on the Ectaco JetBook and JetBook Lite.  You can also get the Sony Touch at Newegg for $269, but at Amazon it can be had for as low as $258.44 depending on the color.

Fry’s has the best price on the Foxit eSlick at $219.99.  Fry’s is also offering the Hanvon WISEreader for $149.99.  After reading Nate’s reviews of this ereader I don’t think it would be a wise choice for most users though.

Free Kindle (and other format) Books

Well first of all, if you are a bit too cheerful and need something to knock you off of that cloud you are sitting up there on, you could snag a free copy of the Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal year 2011, and Economic Report of the President.   At the Barnes and Noble eBook Store  The Budget is $0.90 while the Economic Report is free for nook ereaders and other supported devices.  With all of the red ink I wonder if the U.S. government should really be giving this stuff away for free?

The following books are probably free for only a limited time; so if you see something you want you should grab it now.  Also check out the Free Kindle Books page.

More Blood, More Sweat and Another Cup of Tea by Tom Reynolds (4 1/2 stars/3 ratings)True adventures of an EMT in London.

Hide in Plain Sight by Marta Perry ( 3 1/2 stars/69 ratings) Romantic suspense. Also free at Barnes and Noble eBook Store.

Equivoque Principle by Darren Craske (No reviews yet)British Detective.

The Joy of Pregnancy: The Complete, Candid, and Reassuring Companion for Parents – to – Be by Tori Kropp (4 1/2 stars/23 reviews)

Love Yourself and Let the Other Person Have It Your Way by Lawrence Crane (4 1/2 stars/24 reviews) Self-help

Daring Chloe ( Getaway Girls #1) by Laura Jensen Walker (5 stars/14 reviews)

When You Need a Miracle: Daily Readings by Ann Spangler (4 stars/1 review)Christian living

Off the Record by Elizabeth White (4 1/2 stars/10 reviews)Romance

Fireworks by Elizabeth White (4 1/2 stars/10 reviews)Romance

Dark Arts: Rising by Randolph Lalonde. Supernatural, occult fiction. Available at Amazon for $.99, but free at Smashwords (Kindle & other formats) and Barnes and Noble eBook Store.

Newegg.com still has a good price on the JetBook Lite at $129.99 + $1.99 shipping.  You will also find the JetBook for $159.99,  the Sony PRS-600 for $269.99 and the Sony PRS-300 for $189.99 at Newegg.  The Sony ereaders come with free shipping.

Amazon actually has a better price of $174.97 for the Sony PRS-300 Pocket Edition,  and as low as $249.95 for the PRS-600Touch Edition ereader.

Free and Low Priced Kindle Books

These same titles may also be available for free in other formats for other ereaders at various online ebook stores.  Usually titles are free temporarily,  so if you see something you want don’t procrastinate.  Also check out my Free and Cheap Kindle Books page.

Deadlock by James Scott Bell (4 1/2 stars/15 ratings) Legal thriller with religious overtones.

Sins of the Fathers by James Scott Bell (4 1/2 stars/15) Legal thriller with religious overtones.

Harvest by Steve Merrifield (no rating) Free at Smashwords, Horror, paranormal. Available in multiple formats.

Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck (4 1/2 stars/50) Romantic adventure is available at the Amazon Kindle store for $1.00.

While looking through Kindle books I found Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States for $9.99.  This must be a pretty recent addition, as it was one of the books that was not available as an ebook when I did my ebook store comparison post or the follow-up post .  I see that this title is still not available at Barnes & Noble, but the Sony Reader Store does have it for $11.19.

Posted at 1:29 pm in Random, eReaders & eBooks on Sale

This week Newegg.comhas the Sony PRS-600 Touch Edition ereader on sale for $269.99 + $1.99 shipping.  They also have the Ectaco Jetbook (black or white) priced at $179.99 + $1.99 shipping and the Jetbook Lite for $129.99 + $5.74 shipping.  If you like burgundy (as a color – not to drink), then you can get the Jetbook in that color for $149.99 + $1.99 shipping which is a pretty good deal.

Fry’s has the Foxit eSlick for $239.99.

Sonystyle.com has refurbished PRS-300 Pocket Edition ereaders for $159.99, and the PRS-600 Touch Edition for $239.99.  (I think I owe thanks to Teleread for this,  but I can no longer find the original post).  Thru January 30 it appears that they will deduct a further $20 off when you place an order – in my case that would almost cover the sales tax.  It also looks like they are not charging for shipping,  though I didn’t see that advertised anywhere.  Sony Style also has a few secondhand covers to go with their pre-owned ereaders.

Free Kindle Books

These titles may also be available for free in other formats for other ereaders at various online ebook stores.  Usually titles are free temporarily,  so if you see something you want don’t procrastinate.  Also check out my Free and Cheap Kindle Books page.

eReader and eBook Sales 01/16/10   no comments

Newegg.comhas a few rather small discounts on several ereaders.

  • Sony PRS-600 Touch – $269.99 + $1.99 shipping
  • Astak EZ Reader Pro – $229.99 w/free shipping
  • Ectaco JetBook Lite – $139.99 w/free shipping
  • Ectaco JetBook – $179.99 w/free shipping
  • Foxit eSlick – $269.99 w/free shipping (Fry’s has a lower price – see below)

Ectaco has apparently made an earlight for use with their JetBook ereaders, and Newegg is offering $10 off of the regular $29.99 price if you bundle it with one of several ereaders.

I have not been able to find any user reviews of Ectaco’s  earlight,  but I can’t imagine it being as effective as one of the clip-on ereader lights such as the Mighty Bright.  What I can imagine is using my ereader in bed at night with the earlight when my significant other asks me something and I blind her with it when I turn my head to answer.

Fry’s has the Foxit eSlick for $239.99.

Update 1/17/10:  Best Buy now has the Sony PRS-300 Touch Edition on sale for $179.99.

Free Kindle (and other formats) eBooks

Homespun Bride by Jillian Hart (3 stars/33) Historical Romance

Baby Bonanza by Maureen Child (3 1/2 stars/15 reviews)

Xenolith by A. Sparrow (4.3 stars) Sci-Fi/Fantasy at Smashwords via MobileRead use code XY39L in shopping cart.  Format: pdf, rtf, txt, mobi, pdb, epub.

5 books by Dave Conifer on Smashwords via MobileRead in various formats.

eReader and eBook Sales 01/10/10   no comments

eReaders on Sale

This week there are only a couple of ereaders at sale prices to report.  The first is the Ectaco Jetbook Lite at Newegg.comwhich is $119.99 with free shipping.

The Ectaco Jetbook Lite features a 5-inch non-backlit LCD screen.  It is unique in that it uses 4 AA disposable batteries rather than a hardwired rechargeable battery.  This would make it good for camping trips, etc. where you won’t be able to access electricity to recharge.

Ectaco-Lite-eReaderAs you can see in the top edge-on photo above,  the bulge of the battery compartment does destroy the thin profile which is usually typical of ereaders;  on the other hand it gives a kind of finger grip that provides a comfortable way of holding the ereader in your left hand.

The Jetbook Lite supports Barnes & Noble ebooks for your DRM’ed ereading pleasure.

Fry’s has the Astak EZ Reader with a 2GB SD card & 108 free public domain ebooks for $199.

eBooks on Sale

Barnes & Noble’s "Big Deals"   section has three pages of ebooks on sale.

Kobo has a 20% off  coupon good for use for one ebook which is good until tomorrow Jan 11.  You will need to enter the code Kobo20 at checkout.

I have updated my Free and Cheap Kindle Books page with a few new titles that I spotted.

eReader and eBook Sales 1/3/2010   no comments

Posted at 9:36 pm in Random, eReaders & eBooks on Sale

Not too many dramatic sales to be found this week,  below are some of  the best I could find.

eReaders on Sale

Best Buy still has some good prices on Sony’s ereaders.  This includes a discounted price of $359.99 with free shipping for the Daily Edition which is on backorder and currently has an estimated arrival time of Jan. 15 – 30.   Best Buy’s price for the Pocket Edition is $179.99 and the Touch Edition is $269.99.  These two will also get the free shipping treatment.

Newegg.com still has the Ectaco 5” JetBook-Lite for $139.99, and the Bookeen Cybook Opus for $229.99.  Both of these come with free shipping.

eBooks on Sale or Free

I’ve made a page listing free Kindle books;  if you have another ereader you might check B&N or another ebook store for free copies of these same titles in other formats.  In many cases publishers promote an author by offering free ebooks across different formats.

Barnes & Noble still has three pages of ebooks on sale .  B&N is also having a 50% off after holiday sale on selected paper books and calendars.

Kobo still has a few free ebooks:

  1. Sway by Jennifer Gibson (4 stars from 49 ratings)
  2. Wit’ch Fire by James Clemens (4 stars from 24 ratings)
  3. Already Dead by Charlie Huston (3 stars/36 ratings)
  4. Star Wars: Lost Tribe of The Sith  #1 (4 stars/12 ratings)

Fictionwise is giving 100% Micropay rebates on selected titles, and also has some free ebooks.  Fictionwise is selling the Ectaco JetBook Lite for $149.95 with a $50 ebook credit,  and the Foxit eSlick for $259.99 which comes with a $100 ebook credit.
