Nook Tablet 8GB – $149   no comments

Through its eBay storefront, Barnes & Noble is selling new – not refurbished – 8GB Nook Tablets for $149.  This is $50 off of the usual price and is probably not going to last long as the available quantities are said to be limited.  This is a good deal; the Nook Tablets are quite nice and this is about the same price as a refurbished Nook Color, which is older hardware.

A few sales and deals for this Mother’s Day weekend:

Kobo is running a 30% off promotion on all titles published by Algonquin.  To get the discount use the promo code Algonquin30 at checkout.  For two of Algonquin’s biggest hits, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick, only customers in the U.S. are eligible for the discount; other titles are eligible for the discount to readers in the U.S. and Canada, possibly elsewhere as well.  This promotion will end on May 14.

Best Buy has a few deals, like a $20 gift card with the purchase of a Kindle with Special Offers or a Nook Simple Touch ereader or a $40 gift card when you purchase both a Kindle Fire and a Kindle with Special Offers.

Amazon has a selection of Kindle Fire covers that are discounted by 30% when purchased together with a Kindle Fire.  Good through May 13.

MyHabit has a selection of designer and boutique Kindle and Kindle Fire cases and sleeves on sale.  Included in the sale are the DODOcase for the Kindle Fire.  This sale will end at 9AM PT on May 15, but usually individual items are of limited quantity at MyHabit and often sell out before the end of the sale.  MyHabit is an Amazon company and you can sign into it with your Amazon account.  There are some nice covers here that Mom would probably like.

DecalGirlhas a promo code – ILOVEMOM – that will be good for a 25% discount through May 14th.

A few ereader and tablet refurb deals for today   no comments

Posted at 10:07 am in eReaders & eBooks on Sale,Random

In its weekly ad, Staples is offering gift cards with the purchase of the Kindle Touch ereader and the Kindle Fire:

  • Get a $10 gift card with a Kindle Touch Wi-Fi with Special Offers at $99
  • Get a $40 gift card with the purchase of a Kindle Touch 3G with Special Offers at $149
  • Get a $15 gift card when you buy a Kindle Fire at $199

The best deal will probably be the Kindle Touch 3G, which is effectively $109 after the promotion – only $10 more than the Wi-Fi only model.  Be aware though that the 3G connection on this particular Kindle cannot be used for the web browser, which only works over the Wi-Fi connection.  The 3G can be used to connect to the Kindle Store and access Wikipedia.  These offers are good through May 12, 2012.

Walmart is offering a $30 gift card with the purchase of the Nook Color at $169 or the Nook Simple Touch ereader at $98.86.

Woot has refurbished Motorola Xoom 32GB Wi-Fi only tablets for $299.99 today only.

SaleADay has Asus Transformer 16GB refurbs bundled with the keyboard/docking station for $349.99.  This one is also today only.

Staples currently has the Kindle DX on sale for $319.00 with free shipping, a savings of $60 off of  the regular price of $379.  Not sure how long this will last but I wouldn’t count on it being in effect after the weekend.

Update 4/29/2012:  Staples has reduced the price of the Kindle DX even more to $259.

Looks like B&N is cleaning house after the introduction of the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight – currently you can pick up a Nook Simple Touch refurbished ereader for $59.99 at the Barnes & Noble eBay storefront.

Sony is finally offering the first book in the Harry Potter series free with the purchase of the PRS-T1.  There were rumors that Sony would be doing this before the launch of Sony’s current ereader, but Pottermore didn’t have the Potter ebooks up for sale yet.  This is a limited time offer and only applies to purchases made online at the Sony Store.

A few good ebook deals for today only   no comments

Posted at 2:55 pm in eReaders & eBooks on Sale,Random

A few interesting ebook deals that are good today only:

Google is offering selected ebooks for $0.25 each day to promote the change of name of the Android Market to Google Play.  In some cases Amazon is price matching these, so they can be had at the Kindle Store for the same price.  The Google books will, of course, work on the Nook ereaders and others that work with ePub.

The Giver (Newbery Medal Book) by Lois Lowry (4 1/2 stars/3,453 reviews) is currently $0.25 at both the Kindle Store and Google Play.The-Giver-by-Lois-Lowry-ebook

Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear of pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12 he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

Moneyball by Michael Lewis is also currently $0.25 at Google Play.  At the Kindle Store (where it receives 4 1/2 stars by 535 reviewers) this price has not been matched yet, but it may happen.

Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s general manager, is leading a revolution. Reinventing his team on a budget, he needs to outsmart the richer teams. He signs undervalued players whom the scouts consider flawed but who have a knack for getting on base, scoring runs, and winning games. Moneyball is a quest for the secret of success in baseball and a tale of the search for new baseball knowledge—insights that will give the little guy who is willing to discard old wisdom the edge over big money.

The Kindle Daily Deal today is The Flatey Enigma by Icelandic author Viktor Arnar Ingolfsson (4 stars/15 reviews).  This book was nominated for the Glass Key award for Nordic crime fiction and the English version was just published last month by AmazonCrossing.  Reduced to $0.99 today only.

Near a deserted island off the western coast of Iceland in 1960, the dawning of spring brings new life for the local wildlife. But for the body discovered by three seal hunters, winter is a matter of permanence. After it is found to be a missing Danish cryptographer, the ensuing investigation uncovers a mysterious link between the researcher and a medieval manuscript known as The Book of Flatey.

Before long another body is found on the tiny island. This time, in the ancient Viking tradition, the victim’s back has been mutilated with the so-called blood eagle. Kjartan, the district magistrate’s representative sent to investigate the crime, soon finds himself descending into a dark, dangerous world of ancient legends, symbolism, and secret societies to find a killer.
