iPad Accessories – DecalGirl Matte Skin Review no comments
The aluminum back of the iPad is quite attractive, but I have applied a DecalGirl skin to mine anyway for several reasons:
- DecalGirl’s skins look cool. Also provides some scratch protection.
- The aluminum back of the iPad is a bit slippery – I can imagine dropping it at some point – I would like a surface with a bit more traction without bulking up the thin profile of the iPad.
- The aluminum back is cold and somewhat uncomfortable in cold weather.
- I wanted to try the new matte finish that DecalGirl offers now.
Installing the skin on the back of the iPad is pretty straightforward as there are no buttons or other features to work around. I opted not to install the other part of the skin on the front of my iPad as I like the black bezel. If you are installing a skin on an ereader or other device with buttons and other controls DecalGirl recommends popping the skin in the freezer for a few minutes first. This makes the adhesive a little less tacky and makes it easier to shift the skin around if you need to adjust the fit.
The matte finished skins definitely do look better than the glossy finish in my opinion. My iPad also feels better in my hands after skinning it – there is a kind of micro texture to the matte finish. Somewhat counter intuitively the glossy skins seem a bit less slippery, especially if your fingers are a little sweaty.
The matte finish is a $5.00 upgrade, but you can use promo code GOMATTE during the checkout process to upgrade to the matte finish for free. DecalGirl currently has about 150 different iPad Skins
as well as skins for the nook, Kindle, Bookeen Cybook and Sony ereaders.
