Consumer Reports has issued its latest ratings of tablets and ereaders.  Barnes & Noble did well in the comparison, with the Nook Color coming in at the top of the list of “tablet readers” and the Nook Simple Touch outscoring the Kindle 3.

Consumer Reports favors the Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Samsung as the best iPad challenger,  saying that it almost matched the iPad 2 in screen quality, while noting that the iPad has many more apps available for it.  CR differentiates tablets and “tablet readers” by whether or not they offer the option of being able to download ereading apps (such as Nook or Kindle apps).

Consumer Reports also found that dedicated ereaders are best for reading ebooks due to their lighter weight and non-backlit displays while tablets are best for reading digital magazines and enewspapers.  Works for me.
