Bloomberg is reporting that NY publisher John T. Colby has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Apple for its use of the term ‘iBooks’ for its ebookstore and ereading application.

Apple has a trademark on the term for use on computers, but only started using it for its ebook application when it introduced the iPad.  According to the lawsuit, Colby acquired the name several years ago when it bought out the assets of another publisher who used the ‘ibooks’ brand name for publishing paper books.
