Moto Xoom update on the way; Android 3.1   no comments

One of the things announced at the Google I/O developer conference yesterday was Android 3.1.  Supposedly Verizon is in the process of pushing this out to its Motorola Xoom customers, but so far I have not seen any sign of it.

Some of the new Honeycomb features include enhancements to the web browser, resizable widgets, support for a variety of USB peripherals and USB host support.  After the update you should be able to attach a wired keyboard or mouse to your Honeycomb tablet.  Joysticks and gamepads are also supported.

Google has launched a cloud-based music storage locker service similar to Amazon’s.  The new service is called Music Beta and is invitation only at the moment.  You can request an invitation here.  There is a new version of the Google Music app that works with Music Beta.  One feature with Google’s music locker is that it caches recently played tracks so that you can replay these (and other music you have selected) when offline.  During the the beta, users can upload up to 20,000 tracks into their locker.

The Music Beta video below is from Google:

Google also confirmed the rumors that the next version of Android will be called Ice Cream Sandwich and will help to unify the Android platform by working across both tablets and smartphones.

Google says that it has now activated over 100 million Android devices globally.
