HP TouchPad to get Kindle App   no comments

Amazon has announced that it will release a Kindle AppHP-TouchPad-webOS-tablet for the webOS powered HP TouchPad, which is expected to be released this summer.  HP officially unveiled the TouchPad yesterday.

Some of the features of the HP TouchPad:

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-CPU APQ8060 1.2GHz
  • 9.7-inch capacitive multitouch display; 1024 x 768 resolution.
  • Microsoft Exchange email with MS Direct Push Technology.
  • GPS (on 3G models only).
  • Front-facing 1.3 MP webcam for video conferencing.
  • Sensors: Light sensor, accelerometer, compass (magnetometer) and gyroscope.
  • Video formats supported: MPEG-4, H.263, H.264; Audio (DRM-free) MP3, AAC+, eAAC+, QCELP, WAV.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.
  • Choice of 16GB or 32GB internal storage.
  • Battery: rechargeable 6300 mAh; no word on actual battery life.
  • USB 2.0 (micro USB).
  • Size: 9.45 x 7.48 x .54 inches (240 x 190 x 13.7 mm); weighs 1.6 lbs.

The TouchPad also supports Adobe Flash and will have access to webOS apps.  It is compatible with HP wireless and networked printers, so if you have a compatible printer you should be able to print directly from the tablet.  The TouchPad will also work together with compatible webOS phones that share the same account.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but HP says that the TouchPad will be competitively priced with the iPad.  It will be joining a crowded market.
