Dictionary.com announced last week that it would be opening its API so that device makers could use it for word definitions.  According to CrunchGear the  Nook Color ereader from Barnes & Noble will be one of the first devices to utilize Dictionary.com’s new API tools.

Jan Brett will read her classic children’s book The Mitten for Barnes & Noble’s Online Storytime program.   From today visitors can listen for free to Ms Brett’s reading and watch an illustrated presentation of the story.  B&N is also offering a 45 percent discount on a selection of Jan Brett books and plush toys.

A monthly feature, Barnes & Noble.com’s Online Storytime is perfect for children ages two through six and showcases favorite children’s books read by well-known authors and celebrities. To enhance the Storytime experience, illustrations and artwork are brought to life through pan-and-scan technology. Previous selections have included Fancy Nancy: Bonjour Butterfly read by author Jane O’Connor; Judith Viorst’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day; Ian Falconer’s Olivia read by SNL alum Ana Gasteyer; and most recently Where the Wild Things Are read by Maurice Sendak. In December Chris Van Allsburg will read his holiday classic The Polar Express.

enTourage has officially launched the Pocket eDGe enTourage-eDGe-Pocket ereader/tablet.  The smaller version of the eDGe is expected to be available from Nov. 8, 2010.  The Pocket eDGe has a 6-inch e-ink screen with Wacom digitizer and a 7-inch LCD touchscreen.  Other features include Wi-Fi, 2MP video camera, 3GB internal memory, microSD card slot.  Amazon lists the Pocket Edge for $339.56.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab appears to be hot in Taiwan.  Digitimes reports that the initial shipment of 400 units was completely booked within the first three hours.

Martha Stewart has partnered with Callaway Digital Martha-Stewart-Makes-Cookies-iPad-App Arts to publish a series of iOS apps.  The first, Martha Stewart Makes Cookies, is now available for the iPad at iTunes for $7.99.  The app includes instructional videos, kitchen timers, shopping lists and other features in addition to recipes.

Callaway Digital Arts also publishes the interactive children’s book Miss Spider’s Bedtime Story for the iPad.

Barefoot Books has announced a promotion in which it will donate one book for every one of its children’s bookspurchased during the month of November.  Books purchased in the US will result in donations to First Book, while purchases in the UKwill benefit Book Aid International.  Very few of these are available in digital format, but many are available in Audible versions.

Reuters reports that Dell plans on launching a number of tablet PC models next year.  This according to statements made by Michael Dell at an event in Hong Kong.
