Reading an ereader in bed at night with a small lamp on a bedside table is not always ideal.  In addition to keeping your significant other awake, your ereading position is limited by the available light.

The Mighty Brightereader light, which uses an alligator style clip to clamp onto your ereader cover gets good reviews and is $5.00 cheaper than the M-Edge e-Luminator2, but I like the fact that I can store the M-Edge light in the spine of my M-Edge Executive ereader cover when not in use rather than having another piece of hardware floating around in a drawer or becoming a cat toy.

The e-Luminator2 has a flat metal base that slides into a slot sewn into many of the M-Edge ereader covers.  When not in use it folds down in the spine of the cover.  For my Irex DR800 ereader M-Edge was selling the model originally built for the Sony PRS-600, but this model has been discontinued.  The folks at M-Edge recommended that I get the e-Luminator2 model designed for the nookinstead.  I think the difference is in the length of the flexible neck.  For ereaders with a five or six inch screen this probably won’t make such a difference, but the DR800 has an 8-inch screen and I worried that if the neck is too short it may be harder to position in such a way as to provide even lighting across the entire screen and to avoid distracting dark spots.

In fact the nook version works fine for my Irex ereader.  On the box this version also says that it is compatible with the Kindle, nook and Sony Daily Edition ereaders.  The light seems solidly built and does light the whole screen.  There are both low and high settings for the LED light.  Battery life (one AAA) is said to be about 20 hours.

If you are in the market for a Kindle, Sony or nook cover with light this might be worth looking at as an alternative to something like the Periscopelighted ereader cover with its baked in light as it will give you a few more design choices.  Many of the M-Edge ereader coversincluding the Latitude, Executive, Prodigy, Go!, Trip and Platform models have the special slot built-in to accommodate the e-Luminator2.
