Kobo Launches eReader no comments
It has been rumored for awhile that Kobo would be releasing its own ereader. In a press release today the company has finally revealed the device.![]()
Some of the features of the Kobo eReader:
- 5 font sizes; 2 font styles.
- Pre-loaded with 100 public domain books.
- Has Bluetooth – you can use to sync with the smartphones that Kobo supports. Also has USB for connecting to computer.
- Battery life of 2 weeks or 8,000 page turns.
- 1 GB memory, can be expanded.
- Has a “soft-touch quilted vinyl back” to make it feel more like a paper book.
- Available colors: porcelain, black.
- Device size: 7.2 x 4.7 inches; 8 ounces.
- Display: 6-inch e-ink with 8 grayscales.
- Supported formats: ePub, PDF, Adobe DE
- Priced at $149 USD. Will be available from Indigo Books in May of this year and from Borders soon thereafter.
Kobo will also be offering skins for their new ereader including a textured cloth skin apparently designed to make the ereader feel more like a pbook.
Kobo also announced that with their “Powered by Kobo” program they are offering their ereading application to ereader manufacturers to include on their devices. The app and Kobo storefront should be embedded on an ereader near you sometime this year.
